Muslim Aids Program (MAP)

This initiative was established 14 years ago in 2000 between the Jamiat, Islamic Medial Association and Islamic Careline. MAP is a faith based organisation which concurs with government policy on HIV and AIDS.  MAP follows the national policy regarding AIDS - ABC (abstain, be faithful, and condomise) but we predominantly emphasize on abstinence.  This ensures those who have contracted AIDS do not transmit it and thus inhibits the spread of the disease.

The Jamiat office in Middelburg serves as the provincial head office for MAP.

Numerous activities are conducted by MAP including:

  • Outreach programs - feeding schemes, blanket drives, Information and life skills. Information is disseminated via print media and electronic media.  Information can be emailed to interested parties.

  • Life skills at schools from foundation phase through to high school

  • Workshops on HIV Aids and other health related issues.

  • Feeding schemes in conjunction with Al Imdad Slice For Life program. 500 patients are fed daily at Witbank Hospital.  MAP educates and feeds patients in one breath.

  • Orphan & vulnerable children (OVC) support groups. This includes distribution of uniforms, blanket drives in winter, and female hygiene products

More information and support can be obtained from Rabia Borat or the Jamiat office.
